The Porcelain Seed: Part One

A thousand years ago, in a land both far and strange, a mountain slipped its rounded head above a sea of clouds for just a moment, one out of billions spent in the darkness, and something amazing happened.

High up in the twisted branches of an ancient tree, a single porcelain egg lay in a nest of crumbling twigs. The golden sunlight slid over the smooth surface of the egg, warming it by a single degree. The egg rolled slightly to the side, crushed a twig to dust. It was still for a few long moments, as if gathering strength or resolve.

And then it rang. Not like a tiny crystal bell with a silver clapper - this was a ring with a voice, deep and clear, and it shook the tree. It sounded again, a tuned roar, it rolled smoothly down the mountainside, gathering silence in its wake.

Hello the Venerable Hobo,I'm back from a long, long trip, avoiding work till Monday and, now that I'm at a proper computer, can leave comments far and wide. Maybe just long ones. That's probably more likely.Firstly, since this is about writing, ostensibly, I have two questions. 1) Why don't you send me a story you've written? It would tittilate me in ways you can hardly imagine...and indeed probably should strain to not imagine. 2) HHGttG was everything I hoped it would be. What's the deal with "Mostly Harmless," by the way? I've always heard it was a 4 book thing, but that was 5 and, well, a bit less focused that the other 4. Otherwise, rub your robots little robot head for me. A while back you envisioned you death while being scrubbed softly by floor brushes. That cracked me up. I was in a van, two hours from hallucinating.

Hello the Newly Bearded Birdmonster, your long comments are quite welcome, and were missed. i will indeed send you one of my stories - i believe that i have your email address around here somewhere.H2G2 is stupendously awesome, and yes, MH is kinda unfocused and seems a bit "after the fact" or motivated by "i need some money". still, it's amusing to call it a five book trilogy, and there ARE some good bits in there about sandwiches.glad that my fear of my impending doom via soft brushes gave you a giggle. ;)
