It's the Little Things

I've been trying to get a handle on this whole career switch thing. On the one hand, it's been pretty traumatic, because hey, NO JOB, but on the other hand, I get to spend most days waking up at 11am, trying new kinds of coffee, reading lots of books, and wandering around with my camera. In short, not too shabby. But as an instant gratification-type, I would sort of like to be making money NOW(ish), so I have the comfort of knowing that I can keep this up AFTER the money runs out.

Giving myself little goals seems to help. For example, I've been doing pretty well with my goal of taking at least one photo per day. I've actually sort of done quite a bit more than that - my camera informs me that it has taken 1562 photos since May 10th. So yeah...hooray! I've also made a promise to write one short story per week. So far: one page. Longhand. And it stinks. But hey, I'm gonna finish it.

That said, today was fairly productive. I took pictures of pelicans and sand. I also stopped by the record store and bought some sweet records (actual vinyl):

Parliament: Osmium
Of Montreal: Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?
Johnny Cash: American V
Steeleye Span: Commoner's Crown

Sand, eh? Interesting. Could just as well be a paint sample, or fabric swatch, or... Is the pattern from tire treads? (The light is *very* bad on my monitor just at the moment -- no doubt I will regret this comment in the better-resolution dark of night)

I hear you! I just quit my job to frolic in verdant fields (or whatever I actually plan on doing, yet to be determined). I keep checking my bank account frantically, as if simply quitting my job without having another lined up comes with a bank fee of $1,000.

I'm still hoping to get over to Santa Cruz and say hello. There will be many free weekdays with which to do this.
