Hobo Went A-Hoboin'
Up north again. I saw some things. Let's put together a few perfect days, shall we?
Saturday began with Space Nakji and The Cutest Girl In All of Denmark and some excellent breakfast. (San Jose Mercury News Headline: "Debate Rages Over Spanking")
I then drove them up to San Francisco, and then drove back to Santa Cruz to meet up with Rekabek. Her sister Gertrude and her boy Gaylord shared their cabin and view with me

we went for a hike to the ocean

and then the sun set and we walked back in the twilight

Later that evening I looked at the stars and smoked a pipe on the deck of the cabin. The smoke curled and blossomed like memories of the future and it felt like home for a short time.
The next day found me back in San Francisco.

Highway One twists down the coast. It's the most beautiful stretch of road I've ever driven.

and then the sun set and we swept south again.

My home may still be here in Southern California, but my heart and mind are drifting northward day by day, faster and faster...

Next time you find yourself on Highway 1, stop off at Nepenthe in Big Sur. The food is pricey, but I have never eaten amongst such breathtaking views. Just my 2 cents!
i saw that! it looked interesting, and made me think of Poe. :) i'll make a point to eat there next time...
"memories of the future"
Best line I've read in a long long time. I plan to hold onto that one in my head for a while :)
Dear Mr Hobo,
I love photo no.3. Gold is good.
I like the pointy building too. Why aren't there more pointy buildings? I am sure San Francisco has never been attacked by zeppelins, unlike some other cities I could mention! (Des Moines)
Oh, sweet memories of northern California swept over me after reading your post and looking at your gorgious pictures.
After three years in Santa Clara, I recently moved back to Switzerland, where it's also nice but tiny, cold and snowy.
Good luck to you!
san nakji: thanks! that's my favorite, too, and it's my desktop wallpaper. :) surprisingly, that one didn't have to be processed at all - that's exactly how it came out of the camera.
and i'm sorry to say, but san francisco WAS once attacked by zeppelins. your history books probably don't cover Emperor Norton and his fleet of zeppelins. fortunately, he was a bit crazy and decided to bombard the city with golf balls, so no harm was done, aside from a few headaches and some anger at a few golf courses.
s: strangely enough, i was planning to move to switzerland (geneva area) several years ago, but it didn't happen. i'm assuming you recommend northern california instead? ;)
