RIP, Syd Barrett

Yeah, he was batshit loco, but Piper at The Gates of Dawn was fantastic, and without him, we'd never have had Dark Side of the Moon or The Wall. And that would have been a tragedy for stoners everywhere. He died today at age 60.

In other news, I've been feeling a bit nostalgic lately about video games. My first computer was the TI-994A. I had the Voice Synthesizer. I had the tape drive. I Hunted The Wumpus. I also managed to get so excited playing Pole Position that I folded myself up in a folding chair. Good times, good times.

Here's a commercial for Pole Position that just might beat the Thieving Beard Skittles commercial. The opening line is PERFECT, and the theme song is, dare I say, BOSS.

Syd Barrett was also the You whom the rest of Floyd Wished Was Here. Now there's a sweet album. Now there's a cumbersome sentence. Either way. Both, in fact.

Also, I have demanded further elucidation of the hobo code back home. Heads up.

San Nakji held forth thusly...

Wow, I thought he had died at least 20 years ago... Piper (that's what us real fans call it) was a great album. See Emily Play and all that!

My first computer was a ZX81. It loaded tapes. We had frogger and it took 40 minutes to load.... Ah, memories :-/

pink floyd needed a banjo player. haha.

That cmmercial is cool, but it scared the hell outta me. I was distracted and when it yelled "HEY!" I jumped about five feet straight up and almost dropped my laptop! LOL

Gasoline Hobo held forth thusly...

san nakji: a sinclair? pfffft. the TI was CLEARLY superior. it had a REAL KEYBOARD, for one. and BASIC. and Math Rabbit. ;)

one of these days, i'm going to pull that thing from storage and play centipede, and defender, and parsec, while i listen to Flock of Seagulls and The Buggles.

Katt: i think they did. maybe david gilmour would have been less annoying if he'd have busted out the banjo every once in a while. ;)

i agree with you about the "HEY!" I first watched it at work and almost wet myself. they just don't make commercials like they used to, do they? well, except for cal worthington.
